Martinus Gosia

Martinus Gosia was a twelfth-century Italian jurist and one of the glossators who taught law at the University of Bologna. He led a school of legal interpretation that his opponents styled as accommodating the law to the equity of the purse, and he ranks among the Four Doctors of Bologna, a group of medieval legal scholars whose teaching shaped the early development of the Glossator tradition. Though his interpretive approach initially competed with rival schools at Bologna, his followers, known as the Gosians, went on to influence legal scholarship in southern France.
