Maria Elosegui Itxaso is a Spanish jurist and philosopher born on 7 December 1957 in San Sebastian. She taught philosophy in Bilbao from 1982 to 1988, researched at the University of Glasgow from 1988 to 1989, and was professor of philosophy of law at the University of Zaragoza from 1994 to 2018, while also serving as a member of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance from 2013 to 2017. She was appointed Spain's judge at the European Court of Human Rights in January 2018, succeeding Luis Lopez Guerra.
