Manuel Garcia-Pelayo (1909 to 1991) was a Spanish political scientist and jurist. In 1980, at the invitation of King Juan Carlos the First, he joined Spain newly created Constitutional Court and was elected its first president, serving until 1986. His 1950 book on comparative constitutional law became a standard Spanish language reference that went through more than twenty editions, and he also founded the modern department of political science at Venezuela Central University.
