Manepalli Narayanarao Venkatachaliah, born in 1929, served as the twenty fifth Chief Justice of India from February 1993 to October 1994. He began practicing law in 1951 after studying at the University of Mysore and Bangalore University, became a permanent judge of the Karnataka High Court in 1975, and joined the Supreme Court in 1987. During his Supreme Court tenure he authored ninety judicial opinions across four hundred eighty two bench proceedings. After retiring he chaired the National Human Rights Commission and headed the national commission that reviewed the working of the Constitution, and he received the Padma Vibhushan in 2004.

Manepalli Narayanarao Venkatachaliah is an Indian jurist, who served as the 25th Chief Justice of India, serving from 1993 to 1994. He also previously served as the Chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and on the advisory board of Foundation for Restoration of National Values, a society established in 2008 that strives to restore "national and cultural values" of India.
