Mohammad Hidayatullah was an Indian jurist who served as Chief Justice of India from 1968 to 1970, later serving as acting President of India in 1969 and as Vice President of India from 1979 to 1984, the only person to have held all three offices. He was the first Muslim to serve as Chief Justice of India and authored 461 judgments during his time on the Supreme Court. Earlier in his career he became chief justice of the Nagpur High Court at a young age, and he later held chancellorships at several Indian universities including Delhi University.
