Luis Padilla Nervo

Luis Padilla Nervo, who lived from August 19, 1894, to September 9, 1985, was a Mexican lawyer and diplomat born in Zamora, Michoacan, who studied law at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico with postgraduate study in the United States, France and Britain. He represented Mexico at the 1945 San Francisco Conference and signed the United Nations Charter, later serving as Mexico's first ambassador to the United Nations from 1945 to 1952 and again from 1959 to 1963, and as president of the UN General Assembly during its sixth session in 1951 to 1952. He also served as Mexico's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1952 to 1958. He was elected a judge of the International Court of Justice for the period 1964 to 1973, becoming Mexico's second judge on the court after Isidro Fabela.
