Ludwig Arndts von Arnesberg

Ludwig Arndts von Arnesberg was a German jurist who lived from 19 August 1803 to 1 March 1878. He held professorships of jurisprudence at Bonn, Breslau and Munich before moving to Vienna in 1855, where he remained until his death. In 1848 he sat in the National Assembly at Frankfurt, where he argued for Austria's inclusion in the German Confederation, and the Emperor of Austria knighted him in 1871. His chief works include the Lehrbuch der Pandekten, a textbook on the Pandects that reached its fourteenth edition by 1899, the Juristische Encyclopadie und Methodologie, an encyclopedia of jurisprudence and legal methodology, and a three volume study of the law of legacies, Die Lehre von den Vermachtnissen.
