Sir Louis Henry Davies was a Canadian lawyer and politician born May 4, 1845 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, who served as the third Premier of Prince Edward Island, as a federal Liberal Member of Parliament, and as Minister of Marine and Fisheries. Appointed a puisne justice of the Supreme Court of Canada in 1901 by Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier, he was elevated to Chief Justice of Canada in 1918 by Prime Minister Robert Borden and served until his death on May 1, 1924, remaining the last Chief Justice of Canada to have previously held elected office.
