Konrad Zweigert

Konrad Zweigert was a German legal scholar who lived from 1911 to 1996, taught as a professor of comparative law and private international law at the University of Tubingen from 1948 and at the University of Hamburg from 1956, and briefly served as a judge on the First Senate of West Germany's Federal Constitutional Court from 1951 to 1956. He became a scientific member of the Max Planck Society in 1952 and directed the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg from 1963 to 1979, later serving as the Max Planck Society's vice president from 1967 to 1978. With his colleague Hein Kotz he co-authored Einfuhrung in die Rechtsvergleichung, Introduction to Comparative Law, which became the standard textbook in the field.
