Kamal Narain Singh (1926 to 2022) was the twenty-second Chief Justice of India, holding the office for just seventeen days, from 25 November to 12 December 1991, the shortest tenure of any Chief Justice of India. Educated at the University of Allahabad, he practiced civil, constitutional and taxation law from 1957 before becoming an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court in 1970 and a permanent judge in 1972, and joined the Supreme Court of India in 1986. He later chaired the thirteenth Law Commission of India from 1991 to 1994.
