Kamal Kumar was born on 13 December 1963 and was a Fijian jurist who earned a Bachelor of Law from Queensland University of Technology in Australia. He worked as a lawyer in Australia and then in Fiji, and served for two consecutive terms as president of the Lautoka branch of the Dakshina India Andhra Sangam Fiji until 2012. He was appointed a civil division judge of the High Court of Fiji in 2013 and became acting head of the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission from September 2018. He served as Chief Justice of Fiji from 8 April 2019 until his suspension on 30 January 2023 amid allegations of misbehaviour, and died on 21 November 2023.
