Sir John William Salmond was an English-born legal scholar and New Zealand judge, born in 1862 and dying in 1924. He served as Solicitor-General of New Zealand and, from 1920, as a judge of New Zealand's Supreme Court, and he represented New Zealand at the Washington Naval Conference of 1921 to 1922. He wrote the treatises Jurisprudence and The Law of Torts, both regarded as legal classics in their fields.
