John Stephen Curlewis (31 March 1863 to 24 August 1940) was a South African judge who served as Chief Justice of the Union of South Africa from 1936 to 1938. Born in Paarl in the Cape Colony, he studied law at the University of Cape Town and was admitted to practice in 1887. He joined the Transvaal High Court in 1903, became Judge President of the Transvaal Provincial Division in 1924, and was elevated to the Appellate Division in 1927. He also served as acting Governor-General of South Africa from June to December 1933.
