John Kenyon Mason

John Kenyon Mason, known as Ken Mason (1919 to 2017), was a British legal scholar who served as a Royal Air Force medical officer specializing in aviation pathology before becoming Regius Professor of Forensic Medicine at the University of Edinburgh from 1973 to 1985. He co-authored the widely used textbook Law and Medical Ethics with Alexander McCall Smith, first published in 1983 and still in print through a twelfth edition decades later, alongside works including Medico-legal Aspects of Reproduction and Parenthood and Forensic Medicine for Lawyers. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1995, and colleagues credited him with helping establish medical jurisprudence as a recognized field.
