He conducted the first critical analysis of Hannah Arendt work in Brazil during the 1980s and became a leading figure in developing the rhetorical theory of law within Brazilian legal thought. He held a doctorate and postdoctoral degree from the University of Sao Paulo, pursued further postdoctoral study in Germany with Alexander von Humboldt Foundation funding, and became the first Brazilian to serve on the executive committee of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy.
