Jean-Baptiste-Victor Proudhon (1758-1838) was a French jurist who served as professor and dean at the law school of Dijon, holding the chair of the Civil Code from 1806, and who took part in the development of the French Civil Code as a jurisconsult consulted on legal disputes. Briefly suspended in 1815 for his Bonapartist sympathies, he was reinstated the following year and remained a leading figure of the Dijon law faculty; he was a distant cousin of the socialist theorist Pierre-Joseph Proudhon.
