Jawahir Thontowi was born on September 8, 1956 in West Java and is an Indonesian legal scholar, a lecturer and professor of legal anthropology at the Islamic University of Indonesia. He earned his PhD in 1999 from the University of Western Australia in legal anthropology, and he is an expert resource person in Indonesia on indigenous law and terrorism. He served as a member of Indonesia's Constitution Commission from 2003 to 2004, and in 2010 he was accepted as a professor by Indonesia's Minister of Education for his contribution to legal science and law in Indonesia.
