Janos Fogarasi (1801 to 1878) was a Hungarian jurist and philologist admitted to the bar in 1829 who went on to serve as a councilor in the Hungarian Finance Ministry, president of the Council of Commerce, and a judge of the Hungarian Supreme Court. He wrote on Hungarian jurisprudence and public finance, applying his legal training to questions of commercial and fiscal law. He is also remembered for compiling, with Gergely Czuczor, the six volume Dictionary of the Hungarian Language published under the Hungarian Academy of Sciences between 1861 and 1874.
