Jacques de Revigny was a French jurist born between about 1230 and 1240 who died in 1296. He studied law at the University of Orleans under prominent professors, and later served as archdeacon of Toul before becoming Bishop of Verdun in 1289. He gained renown for his exceptional legal expertise and debating skill; the Italian jurist Cino da Pistoia praised him as the cleverest debater in the world, a testimonial from a respected contemporary underscoring his influential standing in medieval legal circles.
