Sir Claud Humphrey Meredith Waldock was a British jurist who lived from 13 August 1904 to 15 August 1981, born in Colombo, Ceylon and dying in The Hague. He held the Chichele Professorship of Public International Law at Oxford and served as the United Nations International Law Commission's Special Rapporteur on the Law of Treaties from 1962 to 1966, then served as President of the European Court of Human Rights from 1971 to 1974. He was elected a judge of the International Court of Justice in 1973 and served as its President from 1979 until his death in office in 1981.
