Howard Morrison (barrister)

Sir Howard Andrew Clive Morrison, born 20 July 1949, is a British lawyer called to the bar at Gray's Inn in 1977 who served as defence counsel at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda from 1998 to 2004 and later at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2001, a Circuit judge in 2004, and received a CBE for services to international law in 2007 and a KCMG for services to the rule of law in 2015. He was a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia from 31 August 2009 to 31 March 2016, succeeding Lord Bonomy and serving as trial judge in the case of Radovan Karadzic, and was a judge of the International Criminal Court, representing the United Kingdom, from 11 March 2012 to 10 March 2021, becoming President of the Appeals Division; he also briefly sat as a judge of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in 2009 and later served as a United Kingdom advisor on war crimes to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General.
