Hervey de Stanton

Hervey de Stanton (1260 to November 1327) was an English judicial and administrative official during the reign of Edward II. He served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1316 to 1323 and again from 1324 to 1327, as Lord Chief Justice from 1323 to 1324, and as Chief Justice of the Common Pleas from 1326 to 1327. He descended from the Staunton family of Nottinghamshire and held ecclesiastical posts including the prebend of Husthwaite in York and the parsonage of East Dereham. He is also remembered as the founder of Michaelhouse at Cambridge, a foundation later absorbed into Trinity College, where he is still commemorated as a benefactor.
