Herbert Wechsler lived from December 4, 1909 to April 26, 2000 and was an American legal scholar and former director of the American Law Institute. He is most widely known for his constitutional law scholarship and for the creation of the Model Penal Code, and the Journal of Legal Studies has identified him as one of the most cited legal scholars of the twentieth century.
