Henri Capitant (1865-1937) was a French legal scholar who taught at the University of Grenoble from 1891 and at the Paris law faculty from 1908. His textbooks, including Introduction a l'etude du droit civil (1898) and the Cours elementaire de droit civil (1914-16) written with Ambroise Colin, shaped French legal education for decades. He co-founded the Paris Institute of Comparative Law in 1931 and established the Association of French-speaking Jurists in 1935, an organization later renamed in his honor.
