Harold Barrowclough (1894-1972) was a New Zealand military leader and jurist who served as the eighth Chief Justice of New Zealand from 1953 to 1966. Born in Masterton, he served with distinction in both World Wars, commanding a battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade on the Western Front in the first and the 3rd New Zealand Division through the Solomon Islands campaign in the second, earning the Military Cross and the Distinguished Service Order with Bar. He practised law in Dunedin and Auckland between the wars, and as Chief Justice he established New Zealand's permanent Court of Appeal and sat on the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. He died in Auckland in 1972.
