Guy Canivet, born September 23, 1943, in Lons-le-Saunier, is a French magistrate who trained at the Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature. He served as First President of the Court of Cassation, France's highest court for civil and criminal matters, from 1999 to 2007, and afterward sat as a member of the Constitutional Council from 2007 to 2016, appointed by the president of the National Assembly. His career, spanning the highest levels of the French judiciary and constitutional review, was recognized with honors including the Legion of Honor at the rank of Grand Officer in 2016.
