Gonzalo Parra-Aranguren, who lived from December 5, 1928, to December 3, 2016, was a Venezuelan legal scholar born in Caracas who served as a professor at the Hague Academy of International Law in 1988 and authored numerous works on Venezuelan nationality law and international private law published between 1955 and 2007. He served as a judge of the International Court of Justice from February 28, 1996, to February 6, 2009, succeeding Andres Aguilar Mawdsley and being succeeded by Antonio Augusto Cancado Trindade.
