Gloria Begue Canton lived from March 23, 1931 to December 27, 2016 and was a Spanish professor, jurist, senator and magistrate, the first female law school professor in Spain, teaching law at Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Salamanca. She became the first female dean at a Spanish university in 1969, resigning three years later. In 1977 she was appointed a senator in the Senate of Spain as a member of the Agrupacion Independiente parliamentary group and, through that role, joined the Constitutional Court of Spain, becoming its first female magistrate in 1980 and its first female vice-president in 1986. She returned to academia at the University of Salamanca after her nine-year term on the court ended in 1989, retiring in 2001.
