Georges Ripert (1880-1958) was a French legal scholar known for influential treatises on civil, commercial and maritime law, including commercial-law works co-written with Rene Roblot and civil law texts building on Marcel Planiol's treatises. His other books included La Regle morale dans les operations civiles (1926) and Le Declin du droit (1949). He briefly served as Vichy France's Secretary of State for Public Instruction and Youth in 1940, a period in which he helped draft legislation excluding Jewish students and professors from universities, before returning after the war as an honorary professor at the Paris law faculty.
