Genaro Carrio

Genaro Ruben Carrio was an Argentine jurist who lived from 1922 to 1997. He earned his law degree from the National University of La Plata in 1944 and later studied common law at the Dedman School of Law in Dallas, Texas, an unusual combination that placed him within the analytic tradition of philosophy of law. Carrio translated works by H. L. A. Hart and Alf Ross into Spanish, helping introduce analytical jurisprudence to the Spanish-speaking legal world, and he served as president of the Supreme Court of Argentina from 1983 to 1985 under President Raul Alfonsin. He later served as a commissioner of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
