Gareth Peirce, born Jean Margaret Webb in March 1940 in Cheltenham, England, is a British solicitor and human rights advocate educated at Oxford University and the London School of Economics. She represented Gerry Conlon and the Guildford Four, who were wrongly convicted of Provisional Irish Republican Army bombings, work later dramatized in the 1993 film In the Name of the Father, and she also represented Judith Ward, the Birmingham Six, the family of Jean Charles de Menezes, Moazzam Begg and Julian Assange. She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1999 New Year Honours, an honour she later asked to have withdrawn, and received an honorary doctorate from NUI Galway in 1999.
