Filippo Vassalli was an Italian jurist, born in 1885 and died in 1955, best known for his central role in drafting Italy's 1942 civil code. From 1928 to 1942 he coordinated the code's preparatory work, presided over its drafting commissions, and personally wrote entire sections of it, including the law of property, so that he is credited with authoring roughly two-thirds of the finished code. He also long edited the Trattato di Diritto Civile Italiano, later named in his honor, one of the most complete treatises on Italian civil law.
