Feridun Celik is a Kurdish Turkish lawyer and politician, born in 1966 in Kulp, Diyarbakir province. A graduate of the law faculty of Dicle University in 1987, he worked as a lawyer, including representing Abdullah Ocalan, before serving as Mayor of Diyarbakir from 1999 to 2004 for the Kurdish political parties HADEP and DEHAP. As mayor he was noted for securing legal permission for the Kurdish Newroz festival, and in the years that followed he was arrested more than once in connection with his political activity, including in 2000 and again in 2017.
