Eustathios Rhomaios was a Byzantine legal scholar and judge active from about 975 to 1034. Rising through the judicial ranks under Emperor Basil II, he attained the senior office of droungarios tes viglas, reportedly the first person to hold that title as president of the Court of the Hippodrome. He wrote numerous legal treatises, most of which were later lost, but a colleague compiled selections of his rulings into the Peira, a seventy-five title compendium of precepts and solutions covering civil and criminal law that remained influential and widely cited throughout the Byzantine period.
