Ernst Zitelmann was a German jurist, born in 1852 in Stettin and died in 1923 in Bonn, known for his work in civil law dogmatics. His early publications Die juristische Willenserklarung of 1878 and Irrtum und Rechtsgeschaft of 1879 established his reputation and led to professorships at Rostock and Halle before he settled at Bonn from 1884 to 1921, teaching German civil law and Roman law. His scholarship focused on foundational concepts such as the nature of legal persons and declarations of intent that remain central to civil law doctrine.
