Erik O. Wennerstrom is a Swedish jurist and civil servant born on 25 August 1962 in Vastanfors. He earned a Master of Laws from Uppsala University in 1988 and a Doctor of Laws in 2007 with a dissertation on the rule of law and the European Union, lectured in public law at Uppsala from 1987 to 1990, then joined Swedish government service in 1990 with postings to Sweden's mission in Geneva and its embassy in Kuala Lumpur, worked at the European Commission on judicial cooperation in criminal matters from 1996 to 2000, and served at Sweden's Ministry of Justice directing international relations, EU affairs and international law enforcement affairs from 2000 to 2007. He has served as Sweden's judge at the European Court of Human Rights since 1 April 2019 and became a Vice-President of the Court's First Section on 29 December 2024.
