Edmund Plowden was an English legal scholar of the Tudor period, born in Shropshire in 1519 or 1520 and dying in 1585. He trained at Cambridge and the Middle Temple, and sat in Parliament for three constituencies between 1553 and 1555, though his Roman Catholicism limited his advancement under Elizabeth I. He is remembered chiefly for his Commentaries, a collection of case reports whose legal theorizing contributed to doctrines such as the King's Two Bodies.
