Edmund Bannerman (1832 to 1903) was a journalist, newspaper proprietor and solicitor in the British colony of the Gold Coast, now Ghana. After leaving government service in 1864 he was admitted to practice as an advocate and attorney in the courts of the coastal settlements, going on to work as a solicitor from 1877 and to serve as a Commissioner of Oaths from 1879. His legal career combined with his public writing made him a notable figure in the early development of a locally trained legal profession on the Gold Coast under British common law.
