Dieter Grimm is a German jurist, born in 1937, who served as a justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany from 1987 to 1999. A professor of public law at Humboldt University in Berlin, he has also taught at Yale Law School and directed the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, the Institute for Advanced Study, from 2001 to 2007. His scholarship spans constitutional law, constitutional history and constitutional theory, with particular attention to the development and limits of European constitutionalism. He is widely regarded as one of Germany's most influential living constitutional scholars.
