Cyrus Leland, who lived from September 9, 1810 to June 4, 1890, was an American lawyer and politician active in Wisconsin and Kansas. Born in Grafton, Massachusetts, he studied law in Worcester, was admitted to the bar in Illinois, and practiced law in Sauk City, Wisconsin, and Troy, Kansas, while also serving as a justice of the peace in Illinois in 1835 and in Wisconsin in 1844, and as a notary public in Kansas. He represented Sauk County in the Wisconsin State Assembly during its 1849 session and later served as postmaster, school commissioner, town clerk and county supervisor. During the Civil War he served as a colonel in the Union Army, carrying out recruiting, quartermaster and commissary duties in Arkansas and Indian Territory until his discharge in July 1865.
