Christopher Gregory Weeramantry was a Sri Lankan lawyer and judge who lived from 17 November 1926 to 5 January 2017, born and later dying in Colombo. He served as a Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Ceylon from 1967 to 1972 before becoming Sir Hayden Starke Professor of Law at Monash University in Australia from 1972 to 1991. He was elected a judge of the International Court of Justice in 1991 and served until 2000, holding the office of Vice-President from 1997 to 2000, and he wrote extensively afterward on international law, human rights and peace education.
