Charles Frederic Rau (1803-1877) was a French jurist born in Bouxwiller who became a professor at the Strasbourg law faculty, serving there from 1833 and holding the chair of the Civil Code from 1841, and who also sat as a counselor at the Court of Cassation. With Charles Aubry he wrote the Cours de droit civil francais (1839-46), known as Aubry et Rau, the first systematic synthesis of French civil law to abandon the Code civil's own article-by-article structure.
