Charles Demolombe (full name Jean Charles Florent Demolombe, 1804-1887) was a French jurist who taught law at the University of Caen from 1831 and became known for his monumental commentary on the Code Civil, publishing 31 volumes between 1845 and 1882 while covering only about half the code. He declined appointment to the Court of Cassation to keep working on the commentary, and though hailed by many as the greatest French jurist of his era, critics faulted the work's excessive detail and descriptive style.
