Carl Johan Schlyter (1795 to 1888) was a Swedish jurist and law publisher known for compiling scholarly editions of the medieval Swedish provincial laws into the thirteen volume Corpus Juris Sueo-Gotorum Antiqui, a project he began with Hans Samuel Collin in 1822 and completed alone in 1877. He took permanent leave from his university professorship between 1852 and 1876 to finish the work, which he considered too important to risk leaving unfinished in less capable hands.
