Bhupinder Nath Kirpal (born 1937) was the thirty-first Chief Justice of India, serving from May to November 2002. Educated at St. Stephen's College and Delhi University, he began practicing law in 1962, was appointed to the Delhi High Court in 1979, became Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court in 1993, and joined the Supreme Court of India in 1995. As Chief Justice he administered the oath of office to President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, and after retiring he became the first chairman of India's National Forest Commission in 2003.
