Bernardo Sepulveda Amor, born December 14, 1941, in Mexico City, is a Mexican diplomat and jurist who studied law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, graduating in 1964, and pursued postgraduate study in international law at Queens' College, Cambridge, in 1966. He served as Mexico's ambassador to the United States in 1982 and to the United Kingdom from 1989 to 1993, and as Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs during the 1980s under President Miguel de la Madrid, work for which he received the Prince of Asturias Prize in 1984. He was a judge of the International Court of Justice from 2006 to 2015, serving as the court's vice president from 2012 to 2015, and was named Ambassador Emeritus of Mexico in 2018.
