Badr al-Din al-Ayni

Badr al-Din al-Ayni (1360-1451) was a Sunni Islamic scholar born in Ayntab, present day Gaziantep, and based mainly in Cairo, a jurist of the Hanafi school and adherent of Maturidi theology, described as one of the most influential Hanafi jurists and hadith scholars of his time. He served as chief Hanafi judge in the Mamluk Sultanate and oversaw religious endowments, and his counsel on legal matters was valued by sultans. He wrote extensively on Islamic jurisprudence, hadith commentary and Hanafi legal methodology.
