Alois von Brinz

Alois von Brinz was a German jurist, academic and politician who lived from 25 February 1820 to 13 September 1887. Primarily a scholar of Roman law, he held professorships at Erlangen, Prague, Tubingen and, from 1871 until his death, at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. His Lehrbuch der Pandekten, a textbook on the Pandects, was described by later scholars as the most original legal work of the nineteenth century, and he also produced influential scholarship on the doctrine of compensation in Roman law, establishing himself as one of the leading civil law scholars of his era.
