Alba Luz Ramos Vanegas is a Nicaraguan jurist who has served as President of the Supreme Court of Justice of Nicaragua since 2010, after being reelected to the post in October 2019. She became a lawyer in 1973 and returned to Nicaragua in 1979, rising through the judiciary as National Director of Registries in 1981, Criminal Attorney of the Republic in 1983, Vice Minister of Justice in 1984, a Supreme Court magistrate from 1988, and vice-president of the Supreme Court from 1996 to 1998 before assuming the presidency. She helped draft Law 779 addressing violence against women, and in 2021 the European Union, Canada and the United Kingdom placed sanctions on her over concerns that the court favored the government of Daniel Ortega.
