Alain Chablais is a Swiss-born judge born on 8 July 1969 in Zurich. He earned a law degree from the University of Fribourg in 1992 and a doctorate in law from the same university in 1996, then worked as a teaching and research assistant at Fribourgs law faculty from 1992 to 1995 and as a clerk-rapporteur at the Cantonal Court of Fribourg from 1995 to 1999. He served as a lawyer at Switzerlands Federal Office of Justice in Bern from 1996 to 1998, as a lawyer for the secretariat of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities from 1999 to 2005, and as a lawyer at the Council of Europes Venice Commission from 2005 to 2007, before sitting as a judge at the Federal Administrative Court in St. Gallen from 2009 to 2012. He was elected judge of the European Court of Human Rights in respect of Liechtenstein and began his nine-year term on 1 September 2024.
